John R. Fordyce collection, 1908-1933 (bulk 1916-1921).

The John Rison Fordyce collection consists primarily of material relating to the construction of Camp Pike and business correspondence concerning Fordyce's interest in the building of cotton warehouses and river terminals. Camp Pike, now Camp Robinson, is near North Little Rock. Nearly all of the material in the collection spans the time period from 1916 to 1921. Most of the Camp Pike material is in the form of correspondence relating to daily business operations. Financial papers, military records, reports, photograghs, maps, sketches, and printed material relating to Camp Pike are also included. There is one folder of correspondence and one folder of financial papers relating to the Fordyce Bath House in Hot Springs.

John Rison Fordyce was born on 7 Nov. 1869 at Huntsville, Ala. His father, Samuel W. Fordyce, was a union officer in the Civil War. After moving his family to Arkansas in 1874, S. W. Fordyce became prominent in several industries, most notably the railroad business. John Fordyce settled in Little Rock around 1900 as a partner in the Thomas-Fordyce Manufacturing Co.
